Primitively Fired Pottery

Primitive pottery generally refers to ceramic artifacts from the past, made by our ancient ancestors. It can also mean modern pottery, made with naturally occurring clays and using similar tools and techniques available to prehistoric cultures.

Replica pottery is contemporary ceramics created using the materials, tools, techniques, firing methods and design motifs of a particular ancient culture. Sometimes, it is a near-exact copy of a particular ceramic artifact.

Prehistoric styles of pottery are not necessarily rustic, crude or of poor quality. The Minoan, Egyptian, Mayan, Incan and Ancient Pueblos are just a few cultures that produced high quality and beautiful ceramic artifacts.

Most pots shown on this website are for purchase. Price is generally determined by the time invested in creating the piece, quality of work, and the potter’s satisfaction with the final outcome.
